During the LEN Bureau that was held on 7 December 2019 in Glasgow, Kazan was unanimously chosen as the host for the 2021 European Short-Course Swimming Championships.
Since 2013, the Championships have been held on each odd year, usually in early December. From 1996 to 2013 the Championships were held annually, then every two years.

We are pleased to hold both events in Kazan since the city has become the home of aquatic sports in recent years, where the provision of the highest standards for athletes is guaranteed. Kazan hosted a number of major aquatics competitions including the 2015 FINA World Championships and our LEN Junior Championships in 2019, which were outstanding in every way. Kazan has world-class facilities and an experienced team of organizers, today, the federation cannot ask for more than that.
